I whizzed through this one, because I've been hanging onto my library books for so long, I can't renew them anymore, and I have to say that (at just over 500 pages), this was quite easy to read. Chapter 42: Other Books by Trudi CanavanĪnother new author for me I've seen Trudi Canavan's books around before, so now I've finally dipped a toe in and read one. Officially my least favourite book of the year. I don't think I have ever read a book more cringeworthy than this. No regrets! I highly recommend to lovers of corny YA romance novels! He and Katie were absolutely perfect together! He was so funny, sweet, caring, and also awkward. Oh my goodness! There was so much more depth to him than I originally expected, his journey from the start of the book to the end was incredible to see. It was so great to see the ways she coped with her situation and her character was so perfect I can't even!Īnd then there's Charlie. It was incredible! I also lived the way she expressed herself through her music. Her character felt so real and honest, the way she overcame obstacles and triedd to fit in despite all the odds that were stacked against her. But then the ending came along and shattered my heart into tiny pieces and it was so sad and just ASDFGHJkjsdhfsidf I can't deal!!! I was completely in love with the two characters and everything was perfect. It started of as the most beautiful, awkward, cringey, cheesy, adorable love story ever. I had no idea what to expect from this book, but it was absolutely brilliant. But where Skin Game did everything right, this one seemed really half-hearted. I get that the author was saving it for the big confrontation at the end, but I spent half the book yelling, "JUST TELL HIM!!!" at the pages.Īt its core, this book is, pretty much the same story type as Skin Game. The book has some really frustrating moments in it, due to Dresden actively choosing not to communicate. It's not bad, I was just hoping for a bit more fun, and a bit less moping around. In comparison, this book is kind of really dull, which is a bit disappointing after how long it's been since the previous book, and just how good that previous book was. And a really great sendoff for my favorite Dresden sidekick. 7 years is a long time and the book keeps referencing events and characters that I either outright do not remember, or only vaguely remember.Īlso, the previous book was just a really fun, really entertaining adventure. I may need to go back and read some of them, or at least look up a character and event list. It's been about 7 years since the previous book in the series, and I haven't reread any of the other books in the series during that time. This book feels like one of Butcher's Dresden novellas or short stories stretched out into full novel length, but lacking enough substance to be interesting once lengthened. It picks up at the end, but that doesn't really save it from mediocrity. And as time passes, Autumn will be forced to confront how else life might have been different if they had never parted ways. Charles Vess has been drawing ever since he could hold a crayon and crawl to the nearest wall. Matisse had obviously loved the book very much. Pemberly showed it to me, and it was honestly just about the coolest, must humbling thing I'd ever seen. A total multisensory experience dedicated to the novel, all handmade. This thing is amazing it has sketches and bios of the characters, strips of Elantrian cloth stapled in as examples, little pouches filled with materials from the books, all of that. Instead of a simple write-up on the book, she did a Dragonology-style book on Elantris. Being a clever, creative girl, she went the extra mile. Now, when I say book report, that doesn't get across the scope of what Matisse did. It was just one of those bizarre coincidences that happens just to prove to us all that the world is a funny place. She didn't even know that Pemberly knew me. Now, Matisse didn't know that her teacher was dating me. It seems that one of her eighth grade students-a girl named Matisse-had done a book report on Elantris. Well, at one of our dates, Pemberly told me an amazing story. I was pretty sure I wanted to marry her by that point.) Our relationship was still quite new, and we weren't exclusive yet. If we flash back to January 2006, we find me having been dating Pemberly (her real name is Emily, but she goes by Pemberly online) for about two months. This short story actually has a very interesting backstory. |
